This whimsical paper plate lion craft is a fun afternoon project to make with your kids! It’s a great summer activity to keep the kids busy and practicing their fine motor skills. You probably even have most of the supplies needed on hand already!
Supplies:
- Paper Plate
- Paint (yellow and black)
- Construction Paper (2 sheets – yellow and orange)
- Streamers (aka crepe paper – yellow and orange)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paint Brush
- Pencil
Directions:
- You can begin by painting the paper plate yellow. I put the paint directly onto the plate and let my daughter spread it around with a paint brush until the plate was covered. Then set aside to allow the paint to dry.
2. In the meantime, trace your child’s hand on the yellow and orange paper. I traced the actual hand once, then we cut that out and traced the cutout for the rest of the hands. This was much easier than having my daughter hold still that long. We were able to fit three hands on each sheet of paper for a total of six hands.
3. After the painted paper plate has dried, use the black paint to make the lion’s face. Allow time to dry.
4. Now you can begin gluing the hands around the lion’s face to create the mane. We alternated between yellow and orange.
5. Once the glue is dried, flip the plate over. Cut some pieces of yellow and orange streamers and attach to the back of the plate with glue. We didn’t measure the length of the streamers. Your child can use their creativity and decide how they want it to look.
6. Continue gluing the streamers all around the lion’s face until you are happy with the way it looks! Now you can enjoy the cute lion you’ve just created!
Thank you for creating with us! I hope you had as much fun making this paper plate lion craft as my daughter and I did! We look forward to sharing more exciting projects with you again soon!
